Southern Winds Photography San Diego, California
This couple wanted snow for their engagement photos so after giving them a few epic location options we settled on Lake Tahoe. We were both coming from out of town and there was heavy snow in the forecast for sunset. The couple wanted snow in their photos but we definitely didn't want to chance the roads being closed so we decided to start this session right around noon. A lot of photographers will tell you that the light is best at sunset or sunrise , and many times that it the case. But it is always great to be prepared to shoot at any time of the day. And honestly with the right equipment and a little cloud coverage mid day sessions can turn out beautifully. In this case it definitely worked out for the best.
There are about a million beautiful locations in Lake Tahoe for an engagement session but none are more iconic than Emerald bay State Park. This location is set about 600 feet about the lake offering expansive views of the lake and forest below and mountains in the distance. Beach access is available if you are willing to make the 1 mile hike down and back up or via boat.
A permit is required to shoot in any California State Park and Emerald Bay is no exception.
